Tottenham Hotspur Vs Swansea City | Match Preview

The Swans travel to White Hart Lane this weekend after securing their first cup semi-final in 48 years on Wednesday night. The Welsh side have been playing some great football of late beating Arsenal and high flying West Brom in recent weeks, last week’s loss to Norwich was their first defeat in eight games. Meanwhile Spurs will be desperate to record back to back home wins and move back up into the top four after slipping to fifth after agonisingly going behind to Everton in the dying moments last weekend.

Previous Meetings

The last meeting between the two sides ended in a 3-1 win for Spurs and the only other Premier League encounter between the two sides was 1-1 draw.

Team News

Tottenham are struggling for left sided players at the minute influential Gareth Bale and regular left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto are both out through injury and the decision to let Danny Rose out on loan to Sunderland has proved costly.

The Swans have no new injury concerns however may look to utilise squad members with a busy fixture list of late.

Ones to Watch

There is no doubt that Jermaine Defoe is one of the best natural finishers in the league having already got nine goals to his name this term, with a 100% conversion of clean cut chances rate on four  occasions this season.. However it’s not all about goal scoring with Defoe he is very good at bring other players into the game proved by his 79% pass accuracy.

Swansea found themselves a contender for bargain of the season when they signed two million pound Michu.  The Spaniard has already found the net 12 times this season, an early front runner for the golden boot. With a 49% shot accuracy he is bound to test the Tottenham keeper.

Summary

Swansea surprised the pundits with a superb win over Arsenal and getting to the semi-final of the cup, impressive results that were followed by a shocking first half against Norwich.

Tottenham should really be winning this if they are to be serious top four contenders and although they are not a one man team Gareth Bale will be sorely missed. Even if Bale doesn’t make it I think Spurs will have enough fire power to record a home win and will take advantage of a full week of rest.

Prediction

Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Swansea City
