West Brom Vs Tottenham Match Preview

Tottenham head to the Hawthorns on Sunday looking to increase their unbeaten Premier League run to 9 games against a West Brom team that have only taken 1 point from their last 5 games.

Spurs will be in for a difficult game as West Brom have taken 23 points from a possible 36  at The Hawthorns this season, with only Manchester United and Manchester City taking more points at home this season. Tottenham have an impressive away record this season however, winning 50% of their away matches and scoring 23 goals in the process with only Manchester United scoring more away goals (27).

Team News

West Brom will be without Peter Odemwingie after his transfer deadline day antics which saw him turn up at QPR without permission from the club, but Youssouf Mulumbu returns after DR Congo were knocked out of the African Nations Cup. George Thorne is ruled out with a knee injury.

Lewis Holtby will be looking to start his first Tottenham game after making an impact in the 19 minutes he played against Norwich in midweek. Jermain Defoe and Tom Huddlestone have both been passed fit to play against The Baggies, but Adebayor (African Nations Cup), Sandro and Kaboul (both long term knee injuries) all miss out.

Interesting Statistics

  • Tottenham are unbeaten in their last 6 matches with West Brom (W3 D3) and have  lost only 2 Premier League matches against The Baggies since the Premier League began (both 2-0 defeats at The Hawthorns in 2005 and 2008).
  • Jermain Defoe has scored 3 goals in his last 4 EPL matches against West Brom.
  • Romelu Lukaku has scored 9 goals this season and that would be enough to Chelsea’s joint top goalscorer (Majority of Demba Ba’s goals were scored for Newcastle). Chelsea’s loss is West Brom’s gain this season.

Tottenham (6/5) start as favourites to win the game with West Brom being priced at 13/5 and the draw is at 5/2.
