Jermain Defoe is set to be ruled out for up to 3 weeks after damaging ankle ligaments in Tottenham’s 1-0 win at West Brom on Sunday, leaving Spurs incredibly short up front. Although, it could get worse for Tottenham fans if scans reveal any further damage to Defoe’s ankle.

The only good news for Tottenham fans is that Togo were knocked out of the African Cup of Nations by Burkina Faso on Sunday so Emmanuel Adebayor will be heading back to London to give Andre Villas-Boas an option up front.

As Sky Sports have reported – Harry Kane is also back at White Hart Lane after his loan spell at Norwich ended after he struggled with a metatarsal injury, but he has been linked with another loan switch to Championship side Millwall.

Andre Villas-Boas will be cursing not signing another striker in the transfer window and if the reports are true that Daniel Levy would not stump up an extra £3 million to secure Leandro Damiao’s services then questions will be asked at the end of the season if Tottenham do not secure Champions League football.

Defoe’s injury however, does give Spurs fans a chance to see if Adebayor will thrive with a player like Lewis Holtby just behind him like he did last season with Van der Vaart.
