Swansea 4 QPR 1 | Match Summary Stats

Michu again scored a brace, like he did in the corresponding fixture back in the first week of the new season.  Swansea completed a emphatic double over QPR and came out 4-1 winners at Liberty Stadium to heap more misery on their relegation threatened visitors.

QPR had conceded just once in their previous five Premier League games, but they two early strikes from the Swans put the game to bed early on. Michu ended his goal drought in the 8th minute with a follow-up on Nathan Dyer’s shot and  Angel Rangel doubled the lead in the 18th minute. Half time substitute Zamora did pull one back for the visitors as he capitalized on a fumble by Vorm, who made a return to the action after missing out on the previous two occasions due to an injury. Swansea responded immediately as Pablo Hernandez scored the third for the home team and soon Michu put the game beyond any doubt with his 67th minute strike.

The only blemish for Swansea was the injury to defender Chico Flores, who was stretchered off with an ankle injury following a collision with QPR’s Mbia at the half an hour mark and could miss the Capital One Cup final at Wembley in two weeks time. The injury did not unsettle Swansea and they continued to have things their own way, with keeper Michel Vorm hardly challenged through the first half.

Redknapp, deeply unimpressed with his side’s performance in the first half, made two half time substitutes putting on Esteban Granero and Zamora for Shaun Derry and Jamie Mackle and within three minutes his side had a lifeline. QPR were denied a clear penalty in the 56th minute though, when a Andros Townsend cross appeared to strike the arms of Ashley Williams.

For most parts, QPR’s dismal defence was exposed by Swansea’s free-flowing football. The Swans bossed the game around with a superior possession (62.5%) and a better pass accuracy of 86%.

Swansea make the trip to Anfield next, and that might be an interesting match given only a few points separate these two teams on the table. Before they go on to play the League Cup Final. While, QPR will entertain Manchester United at home.
