Chelsea 1 West Bromwich Albion 0 | Match Stats Summary

Rafael Benitez’s Chelsea picked up the win against West Brom at Stamford Bridge thanks to Demba Ba’s first half goal amid a backlash from Chelsea supporters with banners galore protesting against their “interim” manager.

In a game that was potentially a banana skin, especially after Chelsea’s record at home under Benitez and the comments that Rafa had made after the FA Cup, Chelsea started well, were on top in the 1st half and deserved their lead. They attempted twelves shots and nine of these were inside the West Brom penalty area. The ease with which they threatened was worrying for Steve Clarke. Overall Clarke’s West Brom only attempted 5 shots at goal, three of them inside the box.

Mata, Oscar and Hazard were instrumental in the game with the three of them playing the most passes in the final third (total of 86) and they created nine chances between the three of them. Of those nine Mata created four, Oscar 3 and Hazard 2.
