Moses impact | Wigan fail to make a mark

The season is finally here and the inevitable finally happened with Charles N’Zogbia leaving for Aston Villa but have Wigan already found a replacement for Charles N’Zogbia? In Victor Moses Wigan have a young player that not only has bags of pace and potential but also has experience at Wigan in the Premiership.

Wigan started as the left off last year playing 4-5-1 with Franco Di Santo starting upfront on his own with Victor Moses filling Charles N’Zogbia’s boots. It was clear from the start that Victor Moses was going to play a major part in the match and with 26 passes, 20 of which were completed (a 77% success rate) as Victor Moses walked the Man of the Match award.

Franco Di Santo failed to make an impact with only 4 shots in the match but did well to win a penalty in the first half which Ben Watson managed to easily put away. Ben Watson is not the most technically gifted player at the club but 53 completed passes from 64 (a 83% success rate) Ben Watson is certainly going to be a key member of the starting XI and looks to be playing a massive part taking part in most set pieces.

Wigan seemed to struggle at the back with Adrián López Rodríguez replacing Antolín Alcaraz that failed to prove his fitness having returned from international duty with Paraguay. Adrián López Rodríguez suffered an injury early on in the match leaving Wigan with 10 men for over 10 minutes of the first half whilst he was patched up like a modern day Terry Butcher. Unfortunately for Wigan they failed to take advantage of a stuttering start from Norwich and fell foul to a rare mistake from Goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi.

Wigan are 1 point better than they were this time last year, Wigan were defeated on the opening day of the season by Blackpool in 2010 and have failed to win any of their opening Premier League games at home.
