Manchester United to have open top bus parade

Manchester United following their 3-0 win at home to Aston Villa officially confirmed their twentieth League title with thirteen coming within the Premier League era with Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm. As a result of this twentieth title win the club have been granted permission from Manchester city council to hold an open top bus parade to celebrate the title win on Monday 13th May. United will be officially presented with the trophy the day prior the aforementioned parade at the last home game of the season against Swansea on Sunday 12th May with a trip to West Bromwich Albion being the only fixture remaining following that.

Manchester United last held an open top bus parade in 2011 following the clinching of their nineteenth League title in the 2010-2011 campaign in a much needed spirit lifting affair following the club’s hugely disappointing defeat to FC Barcelona in that season’s European Cup final at Wembley. The parade will begin at Old Trafford and will end in Manchester city centre with fans invited to turn out at both the club Stadium and

the streets of Manchester to make the parade a more memorable and involving occasion.

Today’s announcement has in parts caused minor controversy with it expected that Manchester City had already expressed an interest in the slot for their own open top bus parade providing Roberto Mancini’s men could overcome Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup final on Saturday May 11th. With United having the date already booked it will be down to Manchester City to rearrange the date for their parade providing they can beat Wigan which will be no easy feat with Wigan having impressed both in the FA Cup this season and last week at the Etihad where City could only muster a 1-0 win through a Carlos Tevez goal in the 83rd minute.
