Premier League makes a “Special” blunder

It is fairly common knowledge now that Jose Mourinho will be returning to the head job at Chelsea this summer, but that didn’t stop the official Premier League site from blundering into making a premature announcement of the Portuguese’ appointment today.

The announcement said that Mourinho, “returns to the West London club after an absence of almost six years.” The article went on to list his achievements during his time at Stamford Bridge and how he now has the chance to replicate that.

However with no Chelsea confirmation of any deal forthcoming, the Premier League soon realised their mistake and took the article down. No apology appears to be available online for prematurely announcing the appointment, so if they were hoping that no one noticed the mistake then they were wrong. The news was soon all over Twitter, and BBC journalist Dan Roan took a picture of the article to display for readers on his timeline.

While serving as an embarrassment for the Premier League’s PR department, for which they have apologised, the blunder only added to the euphoria surrounding the now former Real Madrid manager’s arrival.

Sky Sports News have lead their programming with the news that Mourinho is back in London, and that he will likely be confirmed as Chelsea manager later this week. This couples with other news they have been putting out, announcing that Madrid president Florentino Perez has confirmed to them that Mourinho will join the Blues this summer.

The Mourinho reunion with Chelsea is not the only near-sure thing to happen in the Premier League this week of course. After his Malaga side’s defeat to Barcelona in the final game of the La Liga season last night, Manuel Pellegrini is believed to have entered into talks with Manchester City over the completion of his move to the club.

Despite this, the main news of the week will surely be with the return of the “Special One” to English football.
