Liverpool hopeful of Salah deal

Liverpool FC are still in the hunt to sign Basel attacker Mohamed Salah but no fee has been agreed as of yet.

There had been reports that Egyptian Salah would be the first of 3-4 new arrivals at Anfield in the first few days of this January transfer window, however if that is the case then Salah will not be one of them.

The Reds are yet to agree a fee for the player known as ‘the Egyptian Messi’ and it is believed that Basel want more than the £7million pounds that has been reported.

Salah has been in productive form so far this season for Basel, in 1149 minutes played he has 4 goals and 5 assists and is involved in a goal every 128 minutes. (Figures courtesy of transfermarkt.co.uk)

In other transfer news for Liverpool it is being reported that they have agreed a ‘first option’ on Derby starlet Will Hughes.

With Liverpool agreeing to Derby’s request for an extension to Andre Wisdom’s loan deal until the end of the season, Rodgers has asked for Liverpool to be informed of any bids for Hughes and to be given first option when the time comes for the player to leave Pride Park.

Overall it is a smart piece of business by Liverpool as both Hughes and Wisdom will benefit from regular first team football until the Summer when they could both make their way to Anfield on a permanent basis.

My take on these stories is that Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements. The gruelling festive programme has played havoc with an already paper thin squad.

Do Liverpool need another attacker? I’m not so sure. They are desperate for a defensive midfielder and a full back for either side.

With the window just opening though, expect more and more transfer rumours in the next 30 days.
