Chelsea face fight to keep Courtois

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will have a fight on his hands to keep hold of Belgian goalkeeper Thibault Courtois if Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simone has his way.

Belgian stopper Courtois has spent the last three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid and has become a fans favourite with a series of wonderful performances.

Atletico manager Diego Simone said this about Courtois  “For me anything paid for Courtois would be cheap.

“He’s a young guy who has a huge future and is on track to becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“Signing a goalkeeper of his caliber would be a big step, but it will not be easy.

“It depends on what Courtois wants, his club (Chelsea) knows our needs, but it is not up to us, because he is not our player.”

Jose Mourinho was planning on using Courtois as back up to Petr Cech next season but the Belgian has already said he does not want to play second fiddle to anyone and hopes for clarification on his future in the near future.

Chelsea have a real decision to make this Summer. Courtois is a wonderful goalkeeper and would be a genuine first choice for most teams in the Barclays Premier League. Summer could be the last chance for Chelsea to cash in on Petr Cech also.
