Liverpool wil let Reina leave for £4million

Liverpool’s Spanish international goalkeeper Pepe Reina can leave Anfield for a fee of £4million pounds due to a clause in his contract.

Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that Simon Mignolet is the new Anfield No 1 and that there is no way back for fans favourite Pepe Reina. Liverpool however will not be able to receive a transfer fee over £4 million pounds.

On Monday Reina had this to say on his Liverpool future ‘Liverpool got another goalkeeper and they told me they were happy to loan me for a season.

‘It was strange but I don’t regret it. There are always ups and downs – the last two-and-a-half years at Liverpool, there were different methods and perhaps I didn’t do as good as I used to under Rafa but I don’t think I was bad.”

However, when asked about a return Rodgers said ‘He’s already written his (goodbye) letter hasn’t he? I was surprised at the letter when you are a loan player. Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli he was looking to move.’

Liverpool should have no problems in selling Reina, with his current club Napoli and Atletico Madrid both interested in making the stopper their first Summer signing.

There certainly appears no way back for Reina at Liverpool. He is still on a contract of close to £100k a week and Liverpool will look to balance the books and get Reina off the wage bill sooner rather than later.
