Toure Injury Better than Expected

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini today revealed that influential midfielder Yaya Toure will not be out for the remainder of the Premier League season, which was initially feared. Toure limped off against Liverpool on Sunday after 19 minutes, a result of a mishit shot only moments beforehand.

Speaking today, Pellegrini said:

“Yaya has a muscle injury and we’ll see how it is. Maybe it’s not as bad as we thought at the beginning but he needs at least ten days or two weeks to recover.”

This news, along with the return of Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany recovering from a knock received in training last Saturday, means City will still have their vital spine to push for the title, even though the title is in Liverpool’s hands. Toure’s 17 goals in 28 appearances have been influential for City this season, adding a goal threat alongside the combative Brazilian Fernandinho.

Pellegrini commented on the pulsating title-race ahead by saying:

“There are still six games for us to play. The important thing is that we win our games because we can do nothing about the other teams.

“We can do a lot of things here and I’m sure the players know exactly what they have to do. They know that that starts tomorrow in winning one of the two games postponed so both Liverpool and Chelsea can feel that we are just four points and three points behind them.”

City have a lot of work to do, but still have games in hand over second place Chelsea, but winning both of those will leave them one short of Liverpool, the league leaders. Liverpool will be hoping for help from their Merseyside rivals Everton to take points of City when they visit Goodison Park, and in recent years it has proven to be a tough venue for City.
