Sturridge Eyes Chelsea Return

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is aiming to be in contention for Brendan Rodgers’ side this weekend in the crunch match against his former club Chelsea. Sturridge was substituted off against Manchester City two weeks ago with a suspected hamstring injury and missed the subsequent game against Norwich, but the Birmingham born man is hoping to make the starting eleven on Sunday.

“Hopefully this weekend I’ll be back,” said Sturridge. “I’m not too sure if he’ll play me or not. We’ll have to see.”

Sturridge also noted that he will show his respect to his past employer, but will struggle to contain his emotions if he scores a dramatic winner.

“I would like to show respect to my former club,” he said.“But if I were to come on and score in the last minute I’m going to be on a mad one, aren’t I?

“I don’t want to – but I don’t know if I could control myself if that happened.”

Sturridge has scored 20 goals in 26 appearances this season, and has proven that Chelsea’s decision to sell him without giving him a chance was a mistake. Chelsea also have injury doubts before the game on Sunday, as well as Mourinho hinting at a “weakened” side.

Liverpool will be hoping Sturridge is fit for selection, as he will surely prove a vital part in their final push for a Premier League title.
