Jose Mourinho Fined for Comments

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been fined £10,000 for his comments following his side’s defeat at Stamford Bridge to Sunderland three weeks ago. The Portuguese native insinuated that chief referee Mike Riley had conspired against clubs to benefit certain teams, and also made reference to the performance of match official Mike Dean.

“What they are doing during the whole season is fantastic, especially in the last couple of months, especially in matches involving the teams that were in the title race, it’s absolutely fantastic.”

In the same game against Sunderland, Jose’s assistant Rui Faria was sent to the stands after a heated confrontation with the official and has since been given a six match stadium ban. Mourinho also lost his appeal for an £8,000 ban for conduct towards Chris Foy against Aston Villa in March, another defeat for the Blues in the second half of the season.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have suffered for their lack of a top quality striker this season, even though Mourinho sent Lukaku out on loan to Everton at the start of the campaign. His side can finish no higher than second place, should Liverpool lose against Newcastle at Anfield, and will end the season without any silverware in the Special One’s return to English football.
