Van Gaal Eyes Instant Success

Newly appointed Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal has revealed he intends on winning the Premier League title in his first season in charge, and emulating the success he had at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. In an interview with Dutch radio, he said:

“Spain saw me succeed in my first year and in Germany as well. In England, it must also be possible.

“But there can only be one champion.”

Jose Mourinho was the first manager to achieve this feat in the Premier League with Chelsea in 2004/05, followed by Carlo Ancelotti and recent winners Manchester City under Manuel Pellegrini. However, both Chelsea sides and Manchester City are/were flush with riches, and did not require what appears to be a complete squad overhaul.

Van Gaal is famed for his high tempered atmosphere in training and coaching, but has had success in the past. At Old Trafford he must manage the squad and improve it to increase the quality and youthfulness throughout to ensure United get back on track to Champions League football next season.
