Remy Cabella is a huge talent in France, who has been a revelation for Montpellier this season, scoring 14 goals and grabbing 5 assists. This form saw him come close to getting into the World Cup squad as he was chosen for the reserve list. He is currently training with France before the official squad fly off to Brazil.
He is now 24 and is approaching the stage in his career that he needs to move to a bigger club to really threaten the French squad. The midfielder has been a massive success at Montpellier, winning the league title in one incredible season, but the French club was involved in the relegation fight this season and that is below the level Cabella should be playing at.
He has been linked with a number of Premier League sides, including Newcastle, Chelsea and Southampton. The North East club are the favourites to sign the Frenchman as they are set to open talks with Montpellier and his agent this week, but they are far from certain to complete the deal, especially as more clubs get involved.
Cabella is an entertaining player to watch, who would light up the Premier League if he moves to England this summer. He likes to dribble with the ball and has a great deal of skill. Moreover, he can put in dangerous crosses and he can cut inside and shoot when on the wing. He can also play through balls to attackers, all of which highlight how he is a huge threat to opposition defences. The midfielder can play on the right or left of an attacking trio, while he can also play the number ten role.
The player himself has said “I have an arrangement with Montpellier in case an interesting offer pops up. Newcastle is a good club in England. Yohan Cabaye told me a lot of good things about them.” Despite leaving the club, it appears Yohan Cabaye continues to play a big part in Newcastle’s recruitment in France. He is the perfect example of why players should move to Newcastle as he has secured a place in the France side and managed to move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs on the back of his amazing spell at St James’s Park. If Cabella does move to Newcastle, he could very well follow Cabaye in becoming a key part of the national side.
Although there is interest from the likes of Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, it may be too early for Cabella to move to one of the top clubs as he could risk having limited first team opportunities. It’s easy to see his talent, but he is still young, so a move to a club like Newcastle or Southampton for a few years may be more beneficial for his career in the long run. Also the amount of French players at Newcastle would be positive for him as he could integrate quicker.
This summer is going to be intriguing as every Premier League club will be looking to strengthen after such an unusual season and the finances of the top flight clubs will mean they can compete with the rest of Europe. Remy Cabella would certainly bring a lot of quality to the Premier League and Newcastle desperately need players like him after a disastrous ending to the season, but they will need to act quickly before the World Cup. If this drags on like many of Newcastle’s transfer dealings in the past, then they face a huge risk of losing out on him. The player wants to move to St James Park, Montpellier are willing to sell, the rest is down the the Newcastle hierarchy.
