Stoke City v West Ham – Betting Preview

Stoke’s home record this season reads: Played 4, Won 2 (Newcastle 1-0 and Stoke 2-1) Lost 2 (Villa and Leicester both 1-0) Scored 3 and Conceded 3. This puts them ranked third for having the best defence in the league at home. But with just three goals scored at the Britannia they are also ranked third for having the worst attack. Burnley are the other Premier League side to have scored only three goals at home this season. Stoke’s overall form line reads Played 9, Won 3, Drawn 2, Lost 3, Scored 8 and Conceded 10.

West Ham come marching into this fixture full of confidence. Their home victory against title contenders Man City leaves the Hammers sitting in fourth place, two points ahead of Arsenal after nine games! Their form line reads Played 9, Won 5, Drawn 1, Lost 3, Scored 17 and Conceded 12. On paper their away form looks impressive, Won 2, Drawn 1, Lost 1, Scored 9 and Conceded 6. However those wins came against Crystal Palace and Burnley with the draw coming against Hull. Even though they come into this fixture on the back of three straight wins they will find in Stoke a much tougher proposition. Much of this season’s success is credited to Diafra Sakho, the in-form striker who scored the winner against Man City and who has netted six goals in six consecutive games. The rumours are that Sakho could be out for up to a month with a shoulder injury which leaves West Ham desperately short up front. Without West Ham’s main man Sakho scoring, I can see opportunities for Stoke to take advantage. The bet here is a Stoke to win @ 7/5 (2.4)
