Manchester City Vs Bayern Munich Preview | Key Men, Stats & Team News

On November 25th, German champions Bayern Munich travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on the English Champions, Manchester City.  Manchester City are in desperate need of a win in this match.  If the English Champions lose again, City could be eliminated from the Champions League with a game to play.  On the other side of the spectrum and the other side of the pitch, Bayern have already won group E with two matches to go in the group.  Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be desperate for this victory, and that might just give them a chance against the German giants.  That said, Pep Guardiola will not accept complacency from his side and will still come out strong as ever.

Team News

Bayern have been absolutely decimated with injuries lately.  The Germans are without their captain, Phillip Lahm, for three months after he suffered an ankle injury in training.  They will also be without their other fullback, David Alaba, as he continues to recover from his knee injury.  Bayern will also be without Javi Marinez, Pepe Reina, Tom Starke, Claudio Pizzaro, Holger Badstuber and Thiago Alcantara who are all suffering from the injury blues.

Manchester City have not been dealt as many injuries as Bayern, but they are still missing some key players through injury.  They will be without their Bosnia striker, Edin Dzeko, as he deals with a calf injury.  The two other players they are missing are their first choice left back, Aleksander Kolarov, and their little Spanish maestro, David Silva.

Interesting Statistics

These two have faced off five times and have never drawn.  Bayern have won three of the five match ups with City winning the other two.  Only one of the five match ups have gone into halftime at 0-0 and nine of them have finished 0-0.  While Bayern have not lost on the road, they have only won two of their five league games away from the Alliez Arena.

Key Players

Manchester City: Sergio Aguero

The player that could be the difference for City going into the rest of this group is their Argentine superstar, Sergio Aguero.  The little Argentine is nothing short of a match winner.  The Manchester City superstar is a special player that can score with such ease.  The former Atletico Madrid man has scored 12 goals in the Premier League averaging a goal every 74 minutes.  As good a goalscorer as he is he can create for others as well, creating a chance every 88.5 minutes.  He may be a little man, but he has a big impact and has that ability to win a game by himself.

Bayern Munich: Mario Goetze

With all of the superstars in this Bayern team it is hard to pick one key man.  For this match, I’ll go with the still young German, Mario Goetze.  The 22 year old has scored goals at a much better rate this season than in his first season with Bayern.  Goetze has scored seven goals and has scored with 26% of his shots.  His goal scoring exploits have not taken away from his creativity making a chance every 42 minutes.  The German is said to have as much potential as any young player in world football right now, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still impact games in a big way right now.

Prediction

This match is  tough one to predict because it is difficult to know how motivated Bayern will be since they have already won the group.  The fact that the Bavarians may not be fully motivated coupled with the fact that Manchester City are desperate for a result could give the English Champions an edge.  Still, Pep Guardiola will want to have his players keep their performance levels high and not let them slump to a first loss in the Champions League.  I’m going to go with a draw for this match keeping City in the Champions League, but putting them in a precarious position.

Prediction: 1-1
