The referee’s assistants can expect a busy afternoon on Saturday at the KC Stadium judging by the offside statistics for Hull’s recent Premier League matches with Newcastle.

On the three occasions the clubs have met since Hull’s return to the Premier League in 2013 one of the pair have been caught offside five times during the match.

In September 2013 it was Hull as, eager for their first away of the season, they won a thriller at St James’ Park 3-2 thanks to a stunning late volley from Sone Aluko.

In the return fixture, though, in March last year Newcastle were the culprits as the Magpies, keen to avenge that loss to the Tigers, romped home 4-1 in a match best remembered for manager Alan Pardew’s head-butt on Hull midfielder David Meyler.

The offside trend has continued this season, with Hull again being caught out five times as they surrendered a 2-0 lead against the Magpies, who climbed off the bottom of the table with two late goals from Papiss Cisse to earn an unlikely point.

Newcastle’s dramatic home fightback last September marked the turning point in both clubs’ seasons in 2014-15, with Newcastle climbing to their current position of 11th and Hull tumbling to 18th and so into the relegation zone.

As a result, the Tigers will be desperate to return to winning ways after successive away defeats to West Ham and West Bromwich Albion, where they failed to score, and to build on the result of their last home game, a 2-0 victory over Everton.

Newcastle are also likely to be quick out of the traps, though, as they bid to notch their first league win of 2015 and to impress John Carver, confirmed this week as interim manager for the rest of the season.

Enhanced price therefore maximum stake of £25 per user.
