Kane’s Double-Barrel too much for Gunners

One of the greatest rivalries in English football, the North London derby, is eagerly anticipated by football fans up and down the country as well as being a special mark on the calendar’s of the Spurs and Arsenal faithful. This weekend saw the 256th meeting between the two sides and with only 2 points separating them pre-match and a spot in the illustrious top 4 awaiting, the fixture had everything in place live up to expectations.

Kane double barrel

With a sold out White Hart Lane as the venue and both teams in decent form it was hard to pick a winner. Arsene Wenger was facing his 11th Tottenham manager during his reign as Arsenal boss and will have been delighted when his side took the lead early doors when enigma Mesut Ozil accurately volleyed home Olivier Giroud’s wayward shot on goal to net his 3rd  in 3 games, sending the away fans into raptures.

Columbia’s World Cup goalkeeper David Ospina was between the sticks for the Highbury club and was soon their stand out player saving numerous times as Danny Rose stung his palms to be denied another famous derby-day goal, and then again from the ever impressive young boy Mason. Arsenal led going into the 2nd half having only posted 1 shot on goal. Tottenham’s breakthrough came in the 56 minute when inexplicably, hit man Kane was left unmarked from a corner and when Ospina could only parry Christian Eriksen’s flick on, Kane was there to tap home comfortably giving just reward to the home sides pressure.

The hosts were on top and shot stopper Ospina was required again to smartly save, firstly from Bentaleb, and then from Dembele, both having strong low efforts parried away. Wenger’s men then posted a couple of warnings of their own as Danny Welbeck saw a bending effort tipped away by Huge Lloris, who will have been happy to see fellow countryman Laurent Koscielny head straight at him when unmarked at a corner.

With the game heading for a stalemate fan favourite Harry Kane wrote his name in lights to accompany the likes of Lineker, Klingsman, Sheringham and Gazza when he rose highest to expertly nod a wonderful header in to the top corner of Ospina’s goal, Bentaleb with the assist. Kane’s brace notching his season tally to a stand out 22 goals, with 12 coming in the league. The win for Spurs puts them 1 point ahead of rivals Arsenal and captures the bragging rights of North London for White Hart Lane. Incidently Spurs have won the most points in the Premier League from losing postitions with 15.

With Kane proving himself as a regular goal scorer in his breakthrough season, as well as a big game player following goals against both Chelsea and Arsenal. Surely an England call up is just around the corner, and there’s more than enough argument that a starting birth is rightly deserved. A League Cup Final to look forward to and 4th spot there for the taking, Kane and Co can could be the group to being success back to Tottenham.
