Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview | Team News, Key Men and Stats

Everton and Tottenham collide at Goodison Park on Sunday for their last fixture of the season. In another year to match up could’ve held a lot more importance in terms of the two sides finishes, but this season it is just another match. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t be a good game of football.

Everton aren’t a wide to rest on their laurels especially against one of the leagues more premier teams. Spurs are in a Europa League spot while Everton we sat mid table after a notably poor start to the season. This means that every game Everton play they are playing to correct the impression they gave this season and look more like the team that pushed for Champions League football last campaign. Expect an exiting affair on Sunday as both teams a bounty of footballing talent and the ability to play with no pressure and ample freedom to put on one last show for their fans before we break for the summer.

Team News

The biggest potential absence for the home side is that of full back Leighton Baines. The England internationals status is listed as TBC for the Spurs game and Bryan Oviedo also out it will mean that young full backs Luke Garbutt or Brendan Galloway will fill the position. Steven Pienaar is also listed as TBC while Gibson and Hibbert are set to continue to kiss out.

Tottenhams injury concerns are pretty much as was. Emmanuel Adebayor is set to kiss out while full back Kyle Walker has failed to beat off his injury in time for the final game of the season. Ben Davies is also listed as TBC and seems set to miss out.

Interesting statistics

Last the the two sides met at Goodison Park they ran out a 0-0 draw in November 2013.

The top scorers in this Premier League fixture are former Tottenham men Robbie Keane and Chris Armstrong who both netted 6 times against the toffees.

Spurs haven’t beaten Everton at Goodison since February 2007 in a 2-1 victory.

That means they’ve failed to beat them in their last 7 visits to Goodison Park.

Everton have to beat Spurs in their last 5 meetings.

Their last victory over Spurs was a 2-1 home win over Spurs in December 2012.

In their 77 previous meetings at Goodison Park Spurs have only ever managed 17 victories.

The first ever meeting between the two was a 4-2 home win for Everton back in September 1909.

Key Players

Everton – Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku’s 10 goals this season isn’t quite what Everton were hoping for when they smashed their transfer record to secure the Belgian from Chelsea. Like his clubs performance this season in general Lukaku has been disappointing, not quite reaching the heights we know he is capable of. Such is talent and physical attributes, we can expect him to potential dominate any opposition on any given day depending if he is feeling consistent. It would be good for Lukaku to give the home support a big show on Sunday against a Tottenham defence is more than capable of exploiting.

Tottenham Hotspur – Nacer Chadli

A lot of the Spurs headlines this year have gone to Harry Kane. If not Harry Kane it was Christian Eriksen. Someone whose contributions can’t be forgotten is Nacer Chadli. The Belgian international had a poor debut season with Spurs after being one of the players signed to replace Gareth Bale. His second season has painted him in a much impressive light. 11 goals from midfield and 5 assists reflects an impressive season for Chadli who has made himself an integral part of the Spurs set up. While others have been given more of the spotlight for obvious reasons Chadli has continued to go about his business in impressive fashion. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he rounded off his season with a goal against Everton.

Prediction

It’s an interesting one to call because both sides should be allowed off their leash to play with freedom and enjoyment. Both sides are of a quality to beat the other on any given occasion. In this case I would give the edge to home side due to the fact they are the home side. I would expect that Everton should want to give their fans a good showing in their last match of the season as a thank you for the disappointing season they have gave them after last year. They are a side gifted with a lot more talent than their league position reflects and should show their side that in their last outing of the season to perhaps set the tone for what they aim to achieve next season

2-1 Everton win.
