Team News

Everton

John Stones who has been dishing out impressive performances this season remains doubtful for the game with a Knee injury and that could be the biggest worry of manager Martinez. The Toffees are also without the services of Baines (Ankle), Besic (Hamstring), Hibbert (knee) and Piennar (Hamstring) while influential right-back Seamus Coleman remains doubtful with a Hamstring Injury.

Liverpool

The reds have injury concerns going into this game as well. They are already without the services of captain Henderson (Metatarsal), Firmino (Back), Lovren (Ankle) and the long time absentee Flannagan (Knee). However, it remains to be seen if Christian Benteke can recover in time from his Hamstring injury to feature in the game.

Interesting Facts

This will be the 204th meeting between these two sides, with Liverpool having won 77 compared to Everton’s 60.

Everton’s last victory over Liverpool in any competition came in the 2010-11 season when they ran out 2-0 winners at home.

The 7 goals Liverpool have scored in all competitions so far have come from English players (Sturridge, Ings, Milner & Lallana)

Expected Line-ups

Everton

Howard, Browning, Jagielka, Funes Mori, Galloway, McCarthy, Barry, Deulofeu, Barkley, Naismith, Lukaku

Liverpool

Mignolet, Clyne, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas, Milner, Coutinho, Ings, Sturridge

Key Players

Ross Barkley

Barkley has begun the season on a very positive note and will be key to Everton’s fortunes on Sunday. The midfielder has put in an all-round performance in the middle of the park and will be looking to dominate the often susceptible Liverpool midfield. With 2 goals and 3 assists to his name already, the Englishman is already the lynch pin of this Everton attack. In current form, the midfielder will push this Liverpool side to it’s limits and should they fail to contain him, they could make the short trip back home with a negative result.

The game on Sunday presents Barkley the right platform to showcase his talents and he will be keen to impress one and all with performance.

Danny Ings

Danny Ings might not be the most talked about striker in the league, but he is definitely a constant threat to the opposition. The Winchester born striker has been one of the few positives from the current Liverpool side. With Daniel Sturride back from injury, the striker will be asked to play an able folly to the English no. 9.

Ings has featured in 4 league games so far and has impressed fans and critics alike with his performances. While he might have scored just one goal, Ings has a lot more to offer as he is intelligent on and off the ball. John Stone’s injury means Everton go into this game with captain Jagielka partnering new boy Funes Mori and Ings will be looking to disrupt the newly forming partnership.
