Tottenham Hotspur v Norwich City Preview | Team News, Stats & Key Men

Fresh from their fantastic victory against Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur are set to entertain Norwich City at White Hart Lane on the boxing day this season. Spurs, have been on an impressively solid run, picking up 11 points in their last six games at home this season and only been defeated twice. They will go into this game following a facile win at the St. Mary’s thanks to goals from Kane and Delle Alli and a resolute performance at the back, which saw them leapfrog Manchester United to the fourth place. A win on Saturday in this frantic period will do them a world of good in terms of sustaining their position in the top four, something Mauricio Pochettino would be looking forward to achieve.

Norwich City should be buoyant at the moment, ahead of their trip to North London after stunning Manchester United with two quickfire goals to come away with all three points. It was their first away win in 11 games and the last victory on the road came in August at Rotherham United in the cup competition and it can’t have come at a better time with all the sides scrambling for points and above all, momentum, in this crucial period of the season which could set the tone for the next two months in the season. They sit 17th in the league with as many points but with only 3 points separate themselves and 13th placed West Bromwich Albion, they should be aiming to cause another upset to go further up the table and ease the pressure before the turn of the year.

Team News

Pochettino must be sweating on the fitness of star striker Harry Kane who could be fit right in time for the visit of Norwich City. Left back Danny Rose and midfielder Ryan Mason will have to be assessed prior to the game to ensure their availability.

Matt Jarvis is nearing full fitness but the trip to North London might have come too soon for him. Center half Andre Wisdom is definitely out of contention with a hamstring injury.

Interesting Numbers

Spurs have conceded only five goals in their last 10 Premier League games against Norwich City.

Norwich City have lost just one of their last five Premier League meetings with Tottenham Hotspur (W2 D2 L1).

Spurs have won 17 and lost none of their last 19 Premier League meetings with newly-promoted opposition since losing to QPR in April 2012.

Since defeating Spurs at White Hart Lane in April 2012 (2-1), Norwich City have failed to win any of their last 15 Premier League away trips to London (L9 D6).

Key Men Comparison

Delle Alli (Spurs) v Alexander Tettey (Norwich City)

Alli has been one of the bright young prospects to have light up the league with scintillating match-winning performances on a consistent basis. Credit to the Argentine boss for investing a lot of faith and patience in him but Alli has done remarkably well to grab his opportunities with open arms and has performed when it mattered. The understanding between him and Harry Kane has been one of the key aspects of Spurs’ ability going forward and will continue to influence results in the future, especially at their fabled White Hart Lane.

Tettey has been a vital figure in Norwich’s midfield and he showed how good he can be in a big stage when he scored the winner at Old Trafford. His goal, was the result of his relentlessness and drive, to make that run forward and attack Man United when they were at their most vulnerable at the back. His defensive duties have also gone under the radar this season, he’s averaged 4 defensive duties for the Canaries this season, the most for a midfielder for Norwich City. He could be really vital for Norwich if they are to stage another shock result, this time in London.

Prediction

Tottenham to win this quite comfortably.

Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Norwich City
