Race for Golden Boot hots up

The race for this season’s Golden Boot has reached a pivotal stage and is set up nicely as we head into the latter stages of the campaign. After a Super Sunday in which the top four Premier League sides battled it out in fiercely contested games, as they looked to gain superiority over their closest rivals, all eyes were on the top marksmen to deliver for their respective teams.

Current top scorer, Jamie Vardy, as well as his England international team mate, Harry Kane, both converted from the penalty spot to further stake their claim for the much coveted trophy. Meanwhile, it was a disappointing weekend for fellow contenders Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku, who after both failing to get themselves on the score sheet, saw their sides suffer damaging defeats in what is proving to be an unpredictable season.

With just twelve games to go in the remainder of the season, it is still anyone’s guess as to who will be crowned champions, and even harder to predict who will win the scrabble for much coveted Champions League places. However, it may well come down to which team’s can keep their free scoring strikers finding the back of the net, as the pressure mounts on players to deliver at every opportunity.

At the start of the season, not many would have put their money on Jamie Vardy to be the top Premier League goal scorer. However, as he is currently three goals better off than his closest rivals, many are now backing the Striker to finish the job, in what has been a remarkable season both personally as well as for his high flying Leicester City team.

However, with some prolific and experienced strikers breathing down his neck, it is certainly worth backing the likes of Kane and Aguero, who look likely to be consistent scorers from now until the end of the season. William Hill offer £25 worth of free bets for new customers, and with little to choose between the leading pack, a flutter on the likes of Aguero et al may well prove fruitful. Last year’s top scorer and one the league’s best talents, the Argentine striker will be hoping to find his shooting boots in the next games and turn around what has so far been an inconsistent season for Manchester City. As last season’s runners up, City will be looking to experienced players such as Aguero, as they look to go one better this time around, and claim the title under the departing Manuel Pellegrini.

One thing that is for sure is that if the unpredictability that we have seen so far during this campaign continues, we could well see changes in the league table, as well as the goal scorer charts. Current outsiders such as Vardy’s Leicester City team mate Riyad Mahrez or Watford’s Nigerian powerhouse Odion Ighalo, are certainly still in with a shout of causing an upset. As a result, the likes of the William Hill free bets are greatly appreciated for those who are looking to cash in on the remainder of what has been a topsy-turvy season.
