Aston Villa defence stats vs Stoke City

Aston Villa went into the game yesterday at the Britannia Stadium with an optimistic agenda, they were fortunate not to get something on Wednesday night with the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal.  Yesterday Aston Villa secured themselves a point with a 0-0 draw at Stoke City who will feel aggrieved they weren’t able to convert the two guilt edge chances they were presented.

Stoke City went into the game with the Premier Leagues highest percentage scoring from set-pieces with 61% and Aston Villa had conceeded from set-pieces with a percentage of 57% so Villa could have really done without the set-piece specialist and long throw-ins.

Despite the draw Aston Villa managed to secure 60.9% of the possession with a pass succession rate of 75% (404 attempted passes and 303 passes reaching targets).

Aston Villa managed to make more perfectly timed tackles, a total of 23, and only lost out on 1 tackle earning a tackle win percentage of 96%.

Villa captain  Stiliyan  Petrov  lead by example and showed his teammates how to go about business.  Petrov was able to complete a full 90 minutes for Aston Villa winning 4 tackles in total (completing with 100% success), not only that Petrov was accurate with 10 ground tackle duels and was successfully in all 10 tackles earning yet again another 100% success rate.
