Premier League Week 3 – Five Most Impressive Elements

Every week of this new Premier League season brings some new incidents or certain players play to their potential, while others seem like a let-down. Three weeks in, there have been a few upsets and surprises already, but which five names managed to impress in the third week?

1. Simon Mignolet

Mignolet is one player who always receives criticism of some kind. He has had a rather average start until the last weekend, when he heroically came through for Liverpool with a rather unusually bold and brave performance in the net.

He saved corners, free-kicks, and even pulled a rather classy save to prevent Toby Alderweireld’s well-placed header from going in during the second half. This will definitely come under one of his best performances for Liverpool. If Loris Karius expected to start playing easily after he returns from injury, he will definitely need to be at his best, if Mignolet continues this form.

2. Arsenal

Although this is a team, Arsenal played well in their last game. It’s like they’ve finally snapped back to reality and are seriously contending now to be good competition. Unfortunately, this realisation has come rather late for them. Then again, better late than never.

Arsenal looked refreshed and played with a sense of energy that seemed missing from the team for so long. Additionally, Mesut Ozil is back for the Gunners, and they put up a good performance against Watford. They were dominating right from the first whistle, and this goes to show how deadly Arsenal can be when their key players are fit and confident.

The transfer window will close soon, and Wenger is expected to bring in new players before that. If he succeeds, then the Gunners might just be a wild-card entry into the top four soon.

3. Marcus Rashford

Rashford was just another England U21 player, and was merely an unused substitute at Manchester United. He got time in a few matches last season wherein he proved to be extremely impactful. He was immediately a fan favourite.

However, if anybody needed more reassurance, then the game against a solid Hull City side would suffice. The game was well on its way to become a draw, which would also mean that United’s winning streak would end. Despite all that pressure, when Jose Mourinho turned to him as time was running out, Rashford delivered. He is a very enthusiastic young player, but his intelligence is what makes him stand out. He managed to weave past a strong Hull defence, and scored the winner in injury time.

4. Raheem Sterling

Sterling just keeps getting better and better for Manchester City. Ever since he left Liverpool, this might be the only time when he looks like the price paid for him is justified. Pep Guardiola is largely to credit for this. He made a point of calling the England midfielder after his tough summer to reassure him and to instil the lost confidence in him.

Given the way that Sterling has played since the season began, it does look like Pep’s efforts have indeed paid off. Two goals and three assist in four appearances, is definitely something remarkable. This just goes to show that all he needed was the right manager.

5. Eden Hazard

Let’s face it: Eden Hazard last season was just terrible. With an astounding start for Chelsea, he did feel like he was falling behind last season, and that showed as he played for a Chelsea team that did not do very well at all.

Hazard doesn’t dwell on the past, clearly, as he was magnificent at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as Chelsea faced Burnley. He played with a sense of freedom, and he looked more energetic. He managed to rip apart the strong Burnley defence, which appeared to be a huge problem for Liverpool, in their previous game. It is a known fact that when Hazard gets into the groove, he is unstoppable. With Conte doing well for the Blues, maybe a revival for the Belgian can be the ‘Hazard’-ous element they needed after all!
