Man City aiming for a Christmas ‘number one’ with high expectations this season

Currently sitting at 4th spot in the Premier League standings, this season hasn’t gone to the plans as far as Manchester City is concerned.

For a team which spent £153.5m in the summer transfer window alone, 4th place – even at such an early stage as Christmas, has rightly sent shockwaves around Etihad.

The club suffered a rattling 3-1 defeat against arch rivals Chelsea last weekend and with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal coming to form, Pep Guardiola has failed to perform at a consistent level for his new club.

After appointing Pep Guardiola at the end of last season, the Citizens were hoping to challenge for the silverware under the managerial ship of such a legendary coach.

Having coached the likes of FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the past, the 49-year-old Spaniard took charge at the Etihad after lifting 21 trophies with his previous clubs.

So when the Manchester City hierarchy appointed Pep as the successor of Manuel Pellegrini, the club was hoping big things out of their new manager.

However, nothing is lost as yet as the Citizens still have enough firepower to turn the season around in the next few months. Get mcfc football tickets online to keep watching the trilling upcoming matches.

After signing the likes of Claudio Bravo, John Stones, Gundogan, Sane, Jesus and Nolito in the summer, Manchester City currently possesses one of the best squads in the World Football. Along with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, Pep Guardiola would want to win some silverware in his first season in English Football.

So now with games coming thick and fast in the month of December, Manchester City are aspiring to sit on top of the Premier League standings on the eve of Christmas.

With two of their next five games to be played against Arsenal and Liverpool, a positive result in these two games can fire the citizens atop of the League table. However, looking at their team ahead of the festive period, some concerns might be raised.

With Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho both absent – both being the best players for Manchester City this season, Pep Guardiola has to find a new formula to make sure his team clicks when fixtures come thick and fast in the next fortnight.
