It is no secret that Liverpool is in the market for another attacking midfield player to act as cover for Sadio Mane when he is at the African Cup of Nations. One player, they are trying to attract to the club is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who plays for Arsenal. The pacy attacking midfielder would be a great addition to the squad if the Reds can pull off the transfer during the January window and will help fill the huge hole left behind from Manes absence. Most Bookies Offers for this transfer have slashed their odds of it happening in recent weeks, so it is a strong possibility it will happen.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has had the best couple of season as he has struggled with a number of injuries and when fit he has found it hard to get game time for the first team. It has been five years since the England attacker joins the Gunners from Southampton and he is yet to make his impact on the pitch. A change of environment may help the player progress to fulfill his potential and reclaim his starting role in the national team.
It has been a typical season for the 23-year-old player as he was starting to hit top form and scored 6 in 23 games, however, another injured has yet again set back his progress. His contract with the Gunner ends at the start of the next season so a move away in January may well be a strong possibility. It all depends if Arsenal is prepared to sell him to one of their challengers for the title.
During a recent interview on footy show Goals on Sunday, the player revealed that he is open to a move away from Arsenal. He said that he needs to play more matches and he may have to leave the Emirates to do this.
The current Arsenal team is built around their two star players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil who play in Oxlade-Chamberlain’s place. It is one of the reasons why he is finding it extremely difficult to break into the first team and why he is yet to complete a full 90 minutes for the Gunners.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is not the only pacy attacker that Liverpool has been linked with over recent weeks. According to a number of sources they are also interested in signing Spartak Moscow’s Quincy Promes. The Dutch international is the leading scorer for Spartak Moscow’s and in 15 appearances so far this campaign he has managed to score 6 goals.
Liverpool had hoped that they had landed their number one target Julian Draxler but they missed out on their man due to PSG stepping in offering vast sums of money for him to join them instead. Both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Quincy Promes are their backup plan for missing out on Drawler and it is likely that they will be able to sign one before the January transfer window closes.
With both Sadio Mane and Phillipe Coutinho out Klopp will need reinforcements to cover for their huge loss. If they can sign either Oxlade-Chamberlain or Quincy Promes it will help them chase their first title since 1990.
