Tottenham Hotspurs chase for the EPL title is hotting up and the win over Southampton made it three victories on the bounce. The win has taken Spurs to a single point off fourth place and if they continue their current form in the new year, they have a great chance of being crowned champions at the end of the season. One their new stadium is complete they will then finally have the edge over North London rivals Arsenal.
Even though Spurs have improved this season so have their closest rivals which put more pressure on the young team to perform. Any small dip in form can have a major impact on the club so the pressure is on but so far they are coping well.
Spurs badly missed Harry Kane when he was out injured but since his return, they have managed to go on a run of wins that have put them back in contention. It was the England striker’s eighth goal of the season in the EPL against Southampton and it is vital he stays injury free until the end of the campaign.
Dele Alli has improved a great deal after having an unbelievable début campaign last season. He was the man of the match against Southampton and his two goals helped Spurs secure a valuable away win.
Spurs will be disappointed with their Champions League early exit and the fact that they are now in fifth place masks that they have improved from last season. A win away to Watford will put Tottenham on track to have their best points tally at this stage of the season. It just goes to show how tough the EPL is and even if they beat their highest point total at the end of the campaign they are not even guaranteed Champions League football next year.
