Will Spurs Prove Their Title Credentials Or Will Man City Drag Themselves Back Into Contention?

After finishing 4th in the EPL last year, Manchester City was ready to come in and take this year’s football betting season by storm. This vital game coming up on the weekend between Manchester City Vs Tottenham Hotspur with the result having big implications on the season ahead. If Spurs win the will prove that they are genuine title contenders this season and if they can learn from the mistakes they made last campaign they are in with a good chance to win the EPL. The Blues started off the season extremely well but in recent weeks have struggled and are in need of a result to boost confidence. If they win they will put themselves back in the race for the title, but lose and it is a long way back for them. They could be completely out of contention if they are not careful and may even struggle to qualify for the champions league if their form does not improve quickly.

Tottenham is flying high at the moment and is on the back of a seven-game winning streak in the EPL. In their last game, they thrashed West Brom with new father Harry Kane banging in a hat-trick. If they can play as well as they did in that match against City they have an extremely good chance of getting the victory they need. Mauricio Pochettino’s team are playing the best football in the league and will be confident that they can get the win they need at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite a lot of hype surrounding Pep Guardiola arriving as the new manager, thing in recent weeks have not lived up to expectation. Lots of money was spent during the summer but the players and manager have not lived up to the high expectation. They need a result to kick-start their season once again as if they do not achieve it they may end up not even finishing in the top four Champions League places.

Tottenham was able to beat City at the start of the season when the played them at home and will fancy their chances of doing the same again. They are on fire at the moment and playing with three at the back is a system that is proving very successful. Spurs will be without Argentine winger Erik Lamela who has been out for a long time due to a hip injury. He is still in Italy getting treatment with no set date for his return. Jan Vertonghen is also out due to picking up ankle ligament damage in their last game against West Brom. He is expected to be out for up to two months and will be a big loss. The same happened last season and Kevin Wimmer managed to step up to the plate. He will have to do the same again this campaign and should provide adequate cover for the time that Vertonghen is missing.

After been thrashed 4-0 by Everton in their last game in the EPL Guardiola will be demanding that his players bounce back. With their defense struggling in recent weeks, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi are going to have their hands full with the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen buzzing at their heels. If Spurs play with three at the back and push the wing back forward like they have done in recent weeks, the Man City defensive is going to struggle to cope with it. Guardiola’s tactics of playing the ball out from the back line is an extremely dangerous thing to do when you have a super fit forward line pushing high up the pitch and closing you down.
