Four Liverpool Players To Keep an Eye Out for in Pre-Season

The 2017-18 season is almost upon us and most of the Premier League’s players will re-group next week to kick start their summer preparations.

Jurgen Klopp is expecting the majority of his squad back next Wednesday when Liverpool’s pre-season campaign officially kicks off.

They start by facing Tranmere Rovers on the 12th July, before taking on Wigan just two days later in the second of two domestic fixtures. Liverpool will then fly out to face a range of opponents in Europe in the Asia Cup before returning to Melwood ahead of the 2017-18 season.

There will be several youngsters on show and a number of squad players who don’t get much action throughout the season. But who should you keep an eye out for? Here are five players EPLIndex believes will light up the stage for the Reds during pre-season…

Dominic Solanke

The former Chelsea youngster has been held back in his career so far but Jurgen Klopp could be the man to unleash him into first team football. This summer he was excellent for the England U19s and was pivotal as they lifted the World Cup so he will be looking to take that form into the pre-season campaign following a few weeks’ worth of rest. As one of the club’s new signings, Liverpool fans will be eager to see what he can do and Solanke will have bags of pace to unleash. With Mane coming back from an ACL injury and Coutinho on international duty, Solanke may have a few opportunities to start in attack.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool’s big summer signing has been waiting four years for a move to Anfield and it was finally secured last month. Salah was one of Europe’s deadliest attackers for Roma last season and he could form a formidable relationship with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane this year. The pre-season campaign will be the perfect opportunity for Salah to find his step with Liverpool. Klopp will be keen for the forward to use the time to build a bond with his fellow attackers.

Danny Ward

Ward spent last season on loan with promoted Championship side Huddersfield Town and the goalkeeper was in top form during the play-offs at Wembley. He made such an impression that Klopp has called for his return to Liverpool this summer despite Huddersfield’s attempts to keep hold of him. He is likely to be given plenty of opportunity in pre-season alongside Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet but his involvement during the 2017-18 campaign is yet to be known.

Sheyi Ojo

Like Solanke, Ojo was a key member of the young Lions’ squad who were named world champions and he is set for an exciting season at Liverpool next year. Klopp has already palmed off several approaches for the youngster which suggests Ojo is to be involved in the first team squad more regularly than before. He has great pace and delivery and has proven to be extremely effective on the wing for the Reds’ reserves but can he take the step up to the first team? His performances in pre-season could give an indication of what he has to offer.
