Fantasy Premier League Insight – GW10 Spurs Statement

Another blockbuster footballing weekend with a few surprises once again. Spurs explosively exploited Liverpool’s defensive frailties, steamrolling the Reds 4-1. Harry Kane highest scoring #FPL points with 16 points (2 goals and an assist). Arsenal piled more pressure on Koeman as Everton went down 2-5 (Koeman has since been sacked); Sanchez, Monreal and Lacazette notable #FPL assets. Huddersfield shocked Man Utd with a 2-1 victory over the title hopefuls; defensive issues rearing its head in that one. Chelsea bounced back from their shock defeat to Palace with a welcome 4-2 victory over high flying Watford. Michy chipped in with 2 goals while Azpi continues to impress getting his goal.

Here are the top scorers for GW9

GW7 GW8 GW9
Watford Stoke (h)  Everton (a) West Ham (h)

Watford look to be the surprise package of this season, Marco Silva has transformed the Hornets into a formidable outfit. They went down to Champions Chelsea at the weekend but #FPL assets Doucoure and Richarlison bagging a goal and assist respectively. Richarlison showed a lot of promise and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet. This is one wave you’d want to ride until it fizzles out, Watford assets are cheaper than the heavy hitters in midfield (Doucoure [£5.4] and Richarlison [£6.3]) which are vital if you’re looking to add quality elsewhere. With the upcoming 3 games looking winnable for Watford, having 1 or even both of their star performers this season is a no-brainer, get on it!

Players to consider: Doucoure; Richarlison

GW7 GW8 GW9
Newcastle Burnley (a) Bournmouth (h) Man Utd (a)

Another team who have steadily gone about their business is Newcastle. The Toon have had decent results of late, grinding out a 1-0 win over Palace at the weekend. Matt Ritchie once again involved with an assist; the midfielder has played in all Newcastle’s games and takes set pieces. Newcastle rarely score multiple goals but Ritchie is usually involved when they do.

Players to consider: Ritchie

GW7 GW8 GW9
Chelsea Bournemouth (a) Man Utd (h) West Brom (a)

Chelsea went through a slight dip losing to Man City and Palace in GW8 and GW7; they fought back to secure a vital win against a tough Watford outfit at the weekend. Their dip in form appears to have coincided with the loss of N’Golo Kante who has been the glue that holds together the Chelsea midfield. One of their summer signings (Tiemoure Bakayoko) has stepped into the Kante role and held the team together with some impressive performances. The midfielder has 2 assists and a goal in the last 4 GWs; currently only owned by 2.9% of teams at £5.1 is a cool differential going forward. The Blues have 2 away games you’d back them to win with the tricky fixture at home to Man Utd who aren’t on the high flying form they were on when the season kicked off.

Players to consider: Bakayoko, Azpilicueta

TINKER STINKER

Sergio Aguero has shaken off his rib injury and played 76 mins for City, netting from the spot. With no Champions league and the Carabao Cup coming up this week if City rest Kun he’d be a shoe in for the weekend. Then again, Pep Guardiola masterfully trolled the #FPL world resting MOST TRANSFERRED IN! Sterling

With the dip in form of Man Utd and the loss at the weekend, many would use this opportunity to get rid of some of their assets. Utd face Spurs, Chelsea and Newcastle in their next 3 so you might want to use this opportunity to swop Lukaku for Aguero. Lukaku assisted at the weekend but has the dark cloud hanging over him of not being able to “perform” against the “big” teams.

Going into GW10

  1. Consider shifting from Lukaku to Aguero; Aguero, as we know, is #FPL God and at £11.7 which is possibly the lowest he’ll ever be.
  2. With Kante out (expected return 5 Nov) for Chelsea; Bakayoko has filled in admirably. Only £5.1, he has to play and has been getting assists and the odd goal.
  3. Watford assets…Get them! either Doucoure (£5.4) and Richarlison (£6.3) should work a charm
  • Outside shouts: Alexis Sanchez (£11.8) and Mesut Ozil (£9.3), both performed well versus Everton but can go missing…have funds available to make a shift for Sanchez, he looks to be kicking on. Ozil is more of a differential at this point.

As always, keep an eye out for injuries during the midweek games…and check out the Anfield Index fantasy podcast!
