Excitement is building as the Premier League approaches its run-in – and several closely-matched games in week 30 mean some great betting value is available over the weekend.
In the first of our daily doubles for the Premier League, we are backing two away teams on Saturday who are expected to compound the relegation worries for the clubs that host them.
Swansea City have been in terrific form since Carlos Carvalhal was appointed as their manager just after Christmas, winning eight of their 15 league and cup matches since then.
They travel to Huddersfield Town this weekend having lost only twice under the Portuguese coach, improving their situation from looking like relegation certainties to a team who could yet finish in the top half of the table if they continue their strong run of results.
Admittedly it’s a worry that the Swans have been winning at home rather than on their travels of late, but a defeat at in-form Brighton is their only away loss since Carvalhal surprisingly got the job only a few days after leaving Sheffield Wednesday.
Huddersfield have been faring well against the teams around them towards the foot of the table recently, but the way Swansea are progressing means we are happy to back them at odds of 21/10 as the value leg of our Saturday double.
We will pair them up with Leicester, who could seal the fate of West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Pardew by winning at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies appear doomed to relegation as they have lost five league games in a row to fall eight points adrift of safety and it is a wonder how Pardew survived last weekend’s defeat at Watford even though the team’s performance was better.
Leicester are without a win in their last five league games, but the FA Cup quarter-finalists have an excellent recent record at this venue having triumphed on their last three visits and at 31/20, they take our Saturday double to very tasty odds of almost 7/1.
On Sunday, we need to delve into the peripheral markets to seek out some value because North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham are both very short-priced favourites to win their games – even though the Gunners have been struggling so badly of late.
Indeed, if you fancy Watford to do no worse than lose by a one-goal margin at the Emirates Stadium you can get odds of 8/13, and that bet certainly appeals considering the Hornets have won three of the last five league and cup meetings between these clubs by a 2-1 scoreline.
Tottenham, meanwhile, travel to Bournemouth and defend a record of four consecutive clean sheets kept against the Cherries, albeit three of those shutouts came when Mauricio Pochettino’s side were at home.
Nevertheless, the ‘no’ option in the Both Teams To Score market is a very tempting 23/20, with a goalless draw between these clubs on the south coast last season adding further weight to the reasoning.
