World Cup 2022: France vs Poland betting preview, odds and prediction

The last-16 phase of the 2022 World Cup kicks-off this weekend with reigning champions France taking on Poland at the Al Thumama Stadium. Fans from all over Eastern Europe are expected to tune in to see if Poland can overcome France with Albanian online casinos offering tempting welcome bonuses for those who want to bet on the match.

However, Poland face a huge task to reach the quarter-finals as the French are hotly-tipped to win the last-16 clash on Sunday afternoon. Didier Deschamps has had to deal with a number of serious injury issues having lost some key players ahead of the tournament, but France still have enough depth to ensure they’re among the favourites to go all the way in Qatar.

France slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in their final group game but topped Group D thanks to victories over Denmark and Australia. Poland on the other hand limped into the last-16 stages after edging past Mexico on goals scored after they both finished with four points from their three group games.

Betting odds

Unsurprisingly, France are the heavy 1/14 odds-on favourites with the bookmakers to qualify for the quarter-finals and 3/10 to get the job done inside 90 minutes.

If you fancy an upset, you can back Poland to reach the quarter-finals at odds of 7/1 or 11/1 to win inside 90 minutes. The draw is available at odds of 4/1.

We expect France to have too much quality for Poland and a 2-1 French victory looks good at odds of 15/2. Kylian Mbappe to open the scoring is also a tempting bet at 3/1.

Big guns recalled

Deschamps is expected to recall some key players after making changes for the dead rubber against Tunisia at the weekend.

Hugo Lloris, Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Jules Kounde are among those set for recalls after they were benched on Sunday.

As for Poland, they have no fresh injury worries to contend with but they’ll be looking to Robert Lewandowski to provide the threat up front.

Prediction

Poland were poor against Argentina as they could easily have lost that match 5-0 if the South American’s had their finishing boots on. All the pressure is on Lewandowski to offer a goal threat and he’s more than capable of causing France problems.

However, the French have a squad packed with quality, despite being without the likes of Karim Benzema, Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante. Mbappe is finding his form at the right time and we expect France to progress. France 2-1 Poland
