Who will Score the Swansea City Goals?

With every new promotion team the question is always asked, who will score the goals? In the past it has come down to a person or

persons to keep the team afloat and keep them up, so who are those for Swansea? and will it be enough?

Swansea City FC is unique in the fact they are a low scoring but an enjoyable team to watch, the defence is tight with only QPRconceding less goals and the reputation of that defence is even more enhanced at home with only 11 goals conceded at the Liberty all season (the best in the Championship).

Anyone who revisits the promoted teams of the past focus on one or two players (usually a striker), who deliver for example with Blackpool the goals of DJ Campbell and Charlie Adam certainly helped their cause but in the end in what was a rather odd season in the Premier League (Due to the number of points required to stay up) survival was left too late.

This article is the first of two based around the attacking prowess of Swansea and will focus on two key players, the newly signed Danny Graham from Watford and player who among all others took Swansea City FC to the Premier League Promised Land Scott Sinclair.

Is Danny Graham the Answer?

Danny Graham was the top scorer in the Championship last season for Watford, a team that performed reasonable if not spectacular. His 24 goals speak volumes but also his ratio for shots on and off target is also impressive. Graham was on target 63% of the time (out of 82 attempts) and chipped in with 9 assists which out strips anyone in his current squad and second only to Don Cowie at Watford.

His 24 goals also represents a 46% success rate from attempts on target and the bold but ambitious bid of 3.5 million  from Swansea to capture Graham could be vital in any survival bid. It is also important to state that he’s been an ever present for both Watford and his previous club Carlisle United notching up a 180 appearances in four years and 67 goals with last season being by far his most productive in front of goal.

So Graham can score, he can create he is rarely missing due to injury or suspension and he can chip in with assists, he is something Swansea ironically didn’t have. Though Dobbie, Borini and Moore all started as strikers for Swansea they produced only 12 goals between them and Swansea City relied upon Scott Sinclair a winger and a goal scorer of the highest calibre.

Sinclair chipped in with 19 goals from the wing and has a 52% on target success rate for shots, he ironically a
s a winger (naturally a creative area of the pitch) chipped in with only 2 assists

Scott Sinclair:- Swansea City Hero

though you only have to search on YouTube why Sinclair’s assist rate is so low (due to his ability to create out of nothing).

Impressive on Television even more enthralling live the guy in one season made himself a Swansea City legend and that was without the man of the match hat trick performance that wrote him into Swansea City FC and Wembley folklore.

His goal ratio is 34% however with 43 appearances he was another ever present in impressive Swansea City FC side.

With a striker who creates and a Winger who scores I believe Brendan Rogers has been wise in bringing such a combination to the Premier League, play for play Sinclair did as much as any other player for any other promotion team last year. The task for Rogers is if Sinclair performs at the highest level will they be able to keep the one time Chelsea youngster from leaving and can Graham make the step up which has left many a striker with promise flounder in the biggest league of them all.
