Chelsea 0 – 0 Man City
Rafa Benitez had to endure a vicious reception as he took to the dugout for the first time, and then watched from the sidelines as his side failed to win over a hostile crowd with a blunt performance.
This didn’t turn out to be the spectacle many would have been hoping for but it was significant in the sense that we witnessed the return of Vincent Kompany to the form that he showed to lead City to the league last term.
Kompany was strong and composed alongside Matija Nastasic, and Fernando Torres once again looked inferior to his two opposing central defenders.
Kompany won 4/5 (80%) of his tackles and all 6 of his ground duels whilst shutting the Chelsea attack out with a total of 12 clearances.
This was Kompany’s fifth clean sheet of the season and Mancini will be glad to see his skipper looking at his best again if they are to continue their unbeaten start to the season.
