Ryan Giggs has put pen to paper on a deal that will mean he will continue to play for Manchester United until June 2014. In signing the deal, the Welshman is set to be involved in his 23rd season for the red half of the city and the veteran will be playing for the current Premier League leaders beyond his 40th birthday.
Speaking to the Official Manchester United Website, Sir Alex Ferguson passionately described his emotions regarding Giggs. “What can I say about Ryan that hasn’t already been said? He is a marvellous player and an exceptional human being. Ryan is an example to us all, the way in which he has, and continues to, look after himself.”
The Manchester United manager went on by explaining why the deal took place and how he felt personally about rewarding his most senior player. “He has fantastic energy for the game and it is wonderful to see. Ryan seems to reach a new milestone every week and to think that he now has 23 unbroken years of league goals behind him is truly amazing in the modern-day game. His form this year shows his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever and I am absolutely delighted that he has signed a new contract.”

Ryan Giggs also gave a short statement to his club’s website to express his delight at signing the deal. “I am feeling good, enjoying my football more than ever and, most importantly, I feel I am making a contribution to the team. I am delighted to have signed a new contract. I would like to thank Sir Alex and the coaching staff and I would also like to thank (outgoing chief executive) David Gill who has been a tremendous support over my many years here.”
Giggs who achieved 64 international appearances for Wales as well as being Team GB’s captain at the 2012 Olympic Games, is set to achieve his 1000th career appearance (at every level of the professional game), if he takes to the field against Norwich City.
