Liverpool & West Ham agree £15m deal for Andy Carroll | Carroll Stats

The BBC has reported that Liverpool and West Ham United have agreed a £15m deal for Andy Carroll. Andy Carroll has enjoyed a successful year at West Ham as they finished in the Top Half of the Premier League table level on points with Capital One Cup winners Swansea.

Despite spending the entire season at West Ham injuries have meant Andy Carroll has played a similar amount of minutes this season (1935 minutes) to the 2011-12 season with Liverpool (2069 minutes) and in fact played a little less at West Ham. His performance this year has improved as he’s almost doubled the goals and therefore his goal frequency (mins per goal) too.

Carroll Stats 2012-13

Andy Carroll has attempted less shots but scored more goals which has resulted in his chance conversion percentage doubling for West Ham. It’s up from a miserly 5% and improved to 11% this season. It’s still not a conversion % a striker would be proud of but it’s an improvement. Shooting accuracy is marginally up but again very low when compared to the top strikers in the League. A younger Lukaku hits the target 58% of the time and has scored 17 goals this season.

Andy Carroll has only had four clear-cut chances created for him this season compared to sixteen last year meaning West Ham only created 25% of the clear opportunities for him to score that Liverpool did last season. This is difficult to compare as Carroll has scored one from the four this season whereas he missed three from sixteen last.

From a Liverpool supporters point of view receiving £15m for Andy Carroll would be excellent as the majority of fans didn’t expect to even receive that amount back after splashing out £35m on the player. This will enable Liverpool to invest in some centre-back replacements with Carragher retiring, Coates out of favour and Skrtel desperately out of form. Liverpool require at least two and are more likely to need three centre-backs before the start of the season.

It’s clear that the player has no future at Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers made that clear last summer. The move is now in the hands of the player and with his good friend Kevin Nolan at West Ham the move seems likely. Carroll stated the following on his time at West Ham:

[quote] I have had a great season here at West Ham, really enjoyed being part of a great set of lads in the team, with the staff around us and the fans…

It has also been reported on Twitter that Carroll is hoping that his home town club Newcastle try to snatch him away from West Ham meaning this transfer saga could just drag on a while however Liverpool FC will want the transfer concluded as fast as possible to push on with their own summer spending.
