Mourinho cast doubt on Cole’s future

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has spoken about Ashley Cole’s future at the club and it wasn’t positive news for the England international.

Cole 33, is out of contract in the summer and he has also found himself out of the team as Cesar Azpilicueta has taken his position in the side.

When asked about Cole’s future, Mourinho said  “I don’t know. I’m happy with the way Azpilicueta is performing.”

With Cole no longer guaranteed first team football at Stamford Bridge then he could find his hopes of going to the World Cup in Brazil dashed aswell, Mourinho again offered no guarantees, saying “I cannot think of national teams at the same time as thinking about my team,”

“There are national team managers that are very clear: they go with their players.

“It doesn’t matter if their players are playing in the club, if they are not playing, they go with their players.

“All these years as a club manager, I found lots of them like this.”

Roy Hodgson does have a serious selection headache at left back. Cole has over 100 caps but is 2nd choice for his club. Leighton Baines has been arguably the best English left back for the past 2 seasons and of course there is both Luke Shaw of Southampton and Kieran Gibbs of Arsenal to take into consideration.
