Lescott hopes to leave on a high

Manchester City centre back Joleon Lescott has confirmed that he intends to leave the club on a high this summer.

Speaking ahead of his teams Capitol One Cup final against Sunderland this weekend, Joleon Lescott has confirmed that he will be leaving Manchester City once his contract runs out at the end of the season.

31 year old Lescott who has already won the FA Cup and Premier League title during his time at the Etihad has his eyes set on a domestic treble this season and sees it as the perfect way to bow out.

“We are going to be at Wembley for the Capital One Cup final and it’s going to be a great occasion and I want to be part of it,” said Lescott.

“That was something I thought about in staying and what we could achieve.

“If I can leave having won two league titles and a domestic treble this season, that would be perfect.”

“I’ve known for a while that the club were not going to renew my contract, but not one performance has been altered by what has been going on with the contract. I just go out there and give 100 per cent.

“I could have gone in January, but I started the campaign and felt I’ve played enough games in competitions to warrant my place in the squad and some games in the team.”

With his experience in the Premier League, Europe and at International level then there will be no shortage of suitors for Lescott once the season ends and he will still harbour hopes of wing part of England’s World Cup squad come the summer.
