No damage done says Pellegrini

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini insists that no damage has been done to his team’s chances of winning the Barclays Premier League after his team’s shock 2-1 home defeat to Wigan in the FA Cup.

They currently sit 9 points behind Chelsea with 3 games in hand and travel to the Nou Camp for their 2nd leg of the last 16 tie with Barcelona.

“We have won one trophy and we have a lot of things to fight for until the end of the season,” Pellegrini said.

“First we must win in Barcelona on Wednesday and then try to go top of the table with our three games in hand.”

City were extremely poor on Sunday, especially in the first half, they struggled to find any tempo and could not control any aspect of the game.

Pellegrini said “I think we played the worst first half we have done in my time here,” “We did not have the pace we needed against a team with Wigan’s intensity.”

If Manchester City do fade away and end up not winning with the UEFA Champions League or Barclays Premier League title then this season will ultimately have to go down as a failure.

To spend close to £100 million pounds and only return with the Capitol One Cup could put pressure on Manuel Pellegrini over the Summer months.
