Burnley v Aston Villa Preview | Team News, Key Men & Stats

On Saturday November 29th, Aston Villa will travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley.  These are two teams that will likely be in the relegation battle come the end of the season.  Despite Burnley coming off of back to back wins, the Bees are still the odds on team to go down, so Villa will think this could a big chance at their first win since September 13th against Liverpool.  That said, this is probably the worst time for Villa to go to Turf Moor because Burnley have won two on the bounce after going winless in their first 10 matches.  This match may lack superstars, but it could go a long way to how the bottom of the table looks come the end of the season.

Team News

Both teams have had the injury bug take a bite out of their squad.  Aston Villa have lost Fabian Delph with a dislocated shoulder until around boxing day.  Villa will also be without captian Ron Vlaar, Philippe Senderos, Nathan Baker, Libor Kozak, and Charles N’Zogbia through injury.  Burnley striker Sam Vokes is still not available for the first team despite making his comeback form his ACL injury with the u-21s in midweek.  They will also definitely be without Matty Taylor who has an achillies injury.  Sean Dyche could also be without Michael Duff and Nathaniel Chabolah as they both recover from knocks.

Interesting Statistics

These two sides have met 114 times in their history, but have only met five times since 1976 and only twice in the league in that time.  The last time the two teams met at Turf Moor was in 2009 with that match ending as a 1-1 draw.  Burnley have not beaten Villa since 2004 in what was then known as the Carling Cup.  These are the two lowest scoring teams in the league with Villa only amassing six goals through 12 games and Burnley bagging eight through.  Villa have only had two different scores in all competitions this season with both Andreas Weimann and Gabriel Agbonlahor scoring for the Villans this season.

Key Players

Burnley: Danny Ings

Prior to the beginning of the season everyone looked at Burnley’s squad and thought that if they were to survive Danny Ings would have to carry them in the goals department.  After a slow start to the season, the English striker has three goals in his last four including both of the teams goals in their 2-1 victory over Stoke City.  Especially with Sam Vokes still out with injury, the Clarets lack quality in front of goal, something that Ings does bring.  The 22 year old is Burnley’s best chance to score going into every match and this one is no different.

Aston Villa: Gabriel Agbonlahor

With Villa lacking goals all season born and bread Villa man Gabriel Agbonlahor has stepped up as much as anyone else has for Villa.  As mentioned above, he and Andreas Weimann have scored all of Villa’s goals this season with each grabbing three.  The team have picked up seven points in the three matches in which Agbonlahor has scored this season.  Even when he isn’t scoring, Agbonlahor provides a constant threat for the opposition to think about with his pace, his willingness to chase lost causes, and his willingness to run in behind defenses.  Agbonlahor can at times provide a spark, something Vill have been missing for much of the season.

Burnley will be desperate to continue their recent good form, so you can expect some enthusiastic challenges from the Clarets in this match.  Bet them to pick up more cards than Villa with TailorBet here: http://goo.gl/C5A4VL.

Prediction

On paper, this does not look like it will be a high scoring affair.  These two teams have struggles mightily to score this season, and both may be happy with a point if that’s what it comes to.  I don’t see more than two goals coming from the two sides.  I’m going to go with a draw meaning both teams go home somewhat satisfied and both extend their unbeaten runs to three games.

Prediction: 0-0 Draw
