Crystal Palace look the perfect opponents for Yaya Toure on Monday night as the Manchester City midfielder looks to take out his frustrations after a disappointing season.
The Ivory Coast international has struggled to repeat the powerful performances he produced last season, when he helped City to the Premier League title.
However, with the African Cup of Nations now out of the way and a winners’ medal in his cabinet, the 31-year-old can now concentrate on ensuring City at least retain second place in the title run-in.
Where better to start than against Palace, who have been unable to contain the former Barcelona star in their two encounters with him.
In the corresponding match last season Toure created City’s opening goal for Edin Dzeko and then sealed the 2-0 win with a goal of his own.
The Ivorian was also on the scoresheet in the clubs’ first meeting of this campaign in December, when City cruised to a 3-0 victory.
Alan Pardew has stiffened Palace since taking over as their manager in January, guiding the Eagles to 11th place, but that rise has been largely on the back of some impressive away results.
Their recent home form has been poor, with only one win from their last four Premier League games at Selhurst Park, and the Eagles have never beaten – or scored against City – in their three encounters since their return to the top flight in 2013.
With Toure having starred in two of those games – he missed the third – it could be a bountiful Easter Monday for the Ivorian.
