Edin Dzeko All Set to Leave Manchester City

Manuel Pellegrini is intent on clearing out Manchester City and recreate it into a club with a majority of players closer to home. The latest player to leave City is Edin Dzeko. The player is all set to make a name for himself at Rome as he has signed on for AS Roma.

Dzeko, who signed from Wolfsburg for £27m in January 2011, will fly and undergo a medical test before joining the club, who have qualified for the Champions League after finishing up as runners up in the Serie A.

He was City’s leading scorer with 15 goals in 2012-13 and hit 26 more in all competitions as they won the Premier League the following season.

Dzeko had served as a good player at Etihad upto a certain point, and even though he scored 72 goals in 187 appearances for City, the Bosnian forward is free to leave, after falling out of favour with Pellegrini, who is ready to operate with Raheem Sterling, youngster Kelechi Iheanacho as cover for Sergio Aguero and Wilfried Bony this season. His departure makes him the ninth first-team squad member to leave the club this summer.

Stevan Jovetic completed an 18-month loan move to Inter Milan last month, whereas Micah Richards, James Milner and John Guidetti have all left the Etihad as free agents. City benefited from the £1.5m from the sale of Dedryck Boyata to Celtic, with Scott Sinclair’s move to Aston Villa costing the Midlands club £2.5m. Matija Nastasic and Alvaro Negredo have both left City on permanent deals following loans to Schalke and Valencia respectively.
