Tottenham Hotspur vs Swansea Preview |Team News, Key Men and Stats

While Leicester City might be hogging all the lime light with their performance in the Premier League, the imperious form of their nearest rivals Tottenham Hotspur cannot be ignored. Currently 2 points behind the league leaders, Tottenham have a chance to go atop the league table should Norwich spring a surprise. Mauricio Pocchetino will be keen to get the most out of the side’s game against relegation threatened Swansea City on Sunday.

Tottenham have won 5 of their last 5 league games and would look to extend the winning streak against the team from Wales, a side who have managed just one win in their last 5 away fixtures.

Team News

Tottenham Hotspur

The London club remain without their first choice centre-back on Vertonghen, meaning Kevin Wimmer will continue to partner Alderweireld at the centre of the defence. Spurs have shipped the least number of goals this season and the new centre-back pairing has performed as well as the first choice pairing, allowing only 2 goals in 4 outings.

Mousa Dembele remains out for the game, meaning Mason would take his place in the starting place alongside Dier, Son, Alli and Eriksen. Harry Kane is set to feature in the crucial tie despite suffering from a broken nose.

Expected Line-Up

Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Rose, Dier, Mason, Son, Alli, Eriksen, Kane

Swansea

Swanse have no injury or suspension concerns going into the game. However, Head Coach Guidolin might take a defensive approach in hope of taking a positive result away from White Hart Lane. We expect him to make minor changes to the frontline with Paloschi expected to take the spot of Wayne Routledge.

Expected Line-Up

Fabianski, Rangel, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor, Britton, Ki, Cork, Sigurdsson, Ayew, Paloschi

Key Men

Dele Alli

When Dele Alli was signed from MK Dons, he was touted as the future of Spurs, someone who would become the cornerstone of the London club three to four years down the line. However, the 19 year old has taken no time to make the big step up to the Premier League and has become an integral part of Spurs’ midfield. He brings immense energy, skill on and off the ball to the side and is technically sound. After taking a while to find his attacking boots, the English international has now scored 7 goals and assisted 5 in the 24 appearances he has made.

The Swansea midfield will need to keep a tab on his movement on and off the ball, as he has shown an ability to drive the side forward, picking the ball from a deeper position. Should they afford him time and space, he could prove to be a destructive force on the evening.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Iceland and former Tottenham player Gylfi Sigurdsson will pose the biggest threat to Spurs on the evening. He can convert critical set plays, has shown good link up play with Ayew while ensuring he does his fare share of dirty work in the middle of the park.

Possessing a tidy set of feet, he could trouble the centre-back pairing of Wimmer and Alderweireld with his clever runs and passes. He currently sits behind Ayew in the Swansea scoring charts with 7 goals in the league and would be keen to add to the number against a side that let him go a few seasons ago.
