Leonard Bonucci To Chelsea – How Will He Fit In?

Chelsea appear to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of Leonard Bonucci. The Juventus defender has also received a £51million offer from Manchester City. The battle between the two clubs heat up further, as both managers have publicly expressed their desire to work with the Juventus defender.

Bonucci impressed one and all working under Conte in the Euro 2016, and it is said that Conte would also prefer if he had the services of the defender at Stamford Bridge as well. However, Guardiola is not to be left behind as he has already praised Bonucci immensely after his Bayern Munich side faced Juventus in the Champions League last season.

It is no surprise as to why both these top-class managers want Bonucci so bad. He has 62 caps for his country and has won five titles and two Italian Cup medals. Conte’s famous 3-5-2 formation will be a challenge with Chelsea’s current team, and thus, Conte sees Bonucci as the man to re-establish order and discipline in the faltering Chelsea backline.

Rumours do suggest that Bonucci is more intent on moving to Chelsea over Manchester City, since Conte will be in charge at Stamford Bridge. He was solid for the Italy team in the Euro 2016, and has been extremely dependable and crafty at Juventus as well.

The 29-year-old has been one of Italy’s star performers so far at Euro 2016 and Conte is desperate to bring him to Stamford Bridge. He will also be able to continue with his favourite formation and play Bonucci in a three-man central defence alongside Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma next season.

Whether Conte adopts that formation remains to be seen, as there is no doubt it brought him so much success with Juventus and Italy. Considering his preference for two strikers, he might play with a modified version of the 4-4-2. However, any he decides to field, having a tactically-aware and technically-sound centre-back like Bonucci is never a bad thing. He’ll fit into any system, and that is one of the biggest advantages Chelsea will have, if they do manage to sign him.

Another noteworthy fact is that the Italians have always managed to weave their magic at Chelsea.
Gianluca Vialli will always continue to be a favourite, Gianfranco Zola is considered as one of the best players ever at Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti put together perhaps the most entertaining Chelsea side in recent memory, and Robert Di Matteo followed an excellent playing career at the club to become the first to lead the club to the Champions League title.

It is no wonder then that the Blues are awaiting the arrival of Conte so eagerly. Add to that another Italian genius – Leonard Bonucci – and they might just be able to reverse their fortunes drastically from last season!
