What impact can Steve Walsh have on Everton?

Leicester City’s man behind the veil has been revealed as Everton’s top target for the Director of Football position and it could be a miraculous move from the Merseyside club.

Everton fans have got an exciting season to look forward to with new manager, Ronald Koeman at the helm and it could get even better if Steve Walsh is named the new Director of Football.

Walsh is the man behind Leicester City’s Premier League success. He was in charge of recruitment at the champions’ club and as joint-manager, played an important role in implementing the players into the squad. Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante, who all impressed for Leicester City last season, were brought to the club by Walsh’s guidance and the rest was history. Everton are hoping he can deliver similar results at Goodison Park.

Billionaire Farhad Moshiri hoped to appoint Sevilla’s Monchi as Director of Football but after his attempts failed, he turned to Walsh and it could prove to be a fantastic decision if the Blues are able to agree terms with Leicester City. His talent spotting could be seen on Merseyside soon and after proving his worth, Walsh could turn things around for the club who have struggled in recent seasons under Roberto Martinez. But what will it mean for Leicester City?

The trio of Mahrez, Vardy and Kante were crucial to their league success last season and they acted as the spine of the team through the middle and in attack. Mahrez’ creativity and flair earned him the PFA Player of the Year award and Vardy’s goal-scoring prowess led him to the international stage.

Kante was the ticking clock in the side and the Frenchman ensured there was consistency throughout the Leicester City midfield. All three were some of the league’s best players last season and Walsh was almost single-handedly responsible for completing some astonishing business in order to bring them all to the King Power stadium. How many would love to go back in time and use thepromotionalcode.com to have won some money on one of the Premier League’s great stories.

Vardy began his career with Fleetwood Town, playing in the Blue Square Premier before completing a £1 million move to Leicester City in 2012 after scoring 31 goals in the 2011-12 season. He went on to score 24 goals for the Premier League champions last year and came second only to Harry Kane in the league’s top goal-scorer’s list. Mahrez was perhaps the pick of the bunch – joining Leicester City for just £560,000 in January 2014 and the PFA Player of the Year has more than proved his worth. Kante joined for £5.6 million from Caen in August 2013 and the midfielder was central to France’s successful run to the European Championship final this summer as well as Leicester City’s title-winning campaign. Kante’s move to Chelsea was confirmed last week and the club have made a profit of almost £25 million from his sale.

Walsh began scouting part-time for Chelsea before joining them on a full-time basis and eventually spent 16 years at Stamford Bridge, including a spell under Jose Mourinho. He was essential in bringing the likes of Gianfranco Zola and Didier Drogba to Chelsea and oversaw a whole host of names join the former Premier League and European champions. Walsh later joined Sam Allardyce as the Chief Scout at Newcastle United before pairing up with Nigel Pearson at Leicester City and Hull City. The scout returned to the King Power Stadium in 2011 and his work in the last five years helped Leicester climb to the top of the Premier League just two years after winning the Championship title.

The scout is currently tied in a contract to Leicester City until 2018 but Everton could agree a deal to bring him to Goodison Park as Director of Football and alongside Koeman, the pair could be very successful. Koeman caught the eye during his first season in the Premier League as Southampton boss; bringing in some shrewd signings and producing a free-flowing, attractive-playing side who finished in the top ten. Koeman’s side have caused problems in the league and gained consistency under effective management and at Everton, the boss could do just the same.

However, with the added scouting talents of Walsh, Koeman could work brilliantly with a sporting director capable of scouting some of the world’s greatest players. Everton won’t be looking to spend too much if they can avoid it but in order to push forward and challenge for a European place, they’ll need to bring in some fresh faces and add a spark. Walsh could be just the addition to do that and his proven knowledge will go a long way to securing Everton some great signings. Koeman was renowned for implementing a range of different players into his Southampton squad and if Walsh provides him with talent, the Blues manager will likely do the same at Everton.

  1. Walsch is a genius of scout. He made lucrative transfers for Leister which allowed it to make huge gains. Everton is only need to sign Everton monster-striker slimani or Icardi and I imagine it will be quite top of the table next season.

  3. This website would have more credibility if it used the up to date Everton logo instead of the old decried one.
