Where Next for Alexis Sanchez?

Things haven’t been looking positive for Arsenal recently. They were thrashed 3-1 at Anfield on Saturday night – putting a dent to their top four hopes and their star player watched from the sidelines for the majority of the game. It was following an apparent bust-up between Alexis Sanchez and some of his senior teammates which doesn’t bode well for fans.

Sanchez has been Arsenal’s best player this season but the club may be forced to wave goodbye to him in the summer following on-going contract disputes. The Chilean has made no secret about his desire to play Champions League football and it’s been reported he is unhappy with his wages in comparison to some of the Premier League’s top stars.

By the end of the campaign, Arsenal may be without Champions League football for the first time in over two decades as well as their star player and their trusted manager. It’s a worrying time for the north London club but Sanchez will have undoubtedly turned his attentions to the future already.

Here are five destinations the forward could end up at…

1) Liverpool

It’s well-known that Liverpool tried to sign Sanchez before he agreed to join Arsenal and they missed out because they couldn’t guarantee Champions League football. It could be the same story this time around but should Liverpool pip Arsenal to a top four spot, they could become the favourites to sign Sanchez in the Premier League. Under Jurgen Klopp, Sanchez will be given the opportunity to express himself in attack and their high-pressing, high-intensity style of play certainly ticks all of his boxes. It would take a big sum for Liverpool to pry Snachez away from Arsenal but the Gunners have not been reluctant to sell to their rivals in the past so they may be swayed again.

2) Barcelona

Sanchez made a name for himself at Barcelona and though it’s unlikely he’d return, there’s no denying he would be an attractive target for them. His powerful, pacy play fits in with Barcelona’s system perfectly but they already have huge stars in Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. Sanchez would come second best to all three and it’s unlikely he would move to a team where he won’t get regular first team action. However, the Spanish giants are always looking to sign the best players in the world and they won’t like the idea of some of their European rivals earning his signature.

3) Juventus

Juventus could be the most compatible team for Sanchez. Their style of play would bring the best out of the Arsenal star and he will undoubtedly be given a starring role. The Italian giants are becoming a force once again in Europe and they compete in the Champions League so Sanchez can perform in the elite competition. They are favourites for the domestic title every year too so there’s plenty of silverware on offer.

4) Paris Saint-Germain

The French champions are believed to be one of the front runners linked with a move for Sanchez. They have attracted some big names in recently but have failed to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic since his departure in the summer. Sanchez is just the player to fill his boots and PSG will not be afraid to splash the cash in order to get their target. They play regular European football and are always competing for the best trophies. According to the Mirror, they could be willing to offer up to £300,000 a week in wages too…

5) Shanghai Shenhua

It’s no surprise nowadays that top players are being linked with big money moves to China. The Super League has managed to attract some of the biggest names in Europe and Oscar was the most recent Premier League star to jump ship. The 25-year-old was the second Chelsea player to join Shanghai SIPG and is earning a reported £350,000 a week! Sanchez could join a number of clubs in the Chinese Super League including Oscar’s team but he has been tipped to replace Carlos Tevez at rivals Shanghai Shenhua after the 33-year-old left left in the summer.
