Sizzling Salah Moves Level on Goals with Kane at the Top of the Charts

Liverpool ground out an expected win against Newcastle at Anfield this evening with the 2-0 victory moving them up to second in the table ahead of the three remaining Premier League fixtures this weekend. While the scoreline was somewhat expected, the goal scorers were arguably even more of an inevitability.

In particular, the first Liverpool goal scorer, Mohammed Salah, was something of a formality as the Egyptian scored for the seventh consecutive game. With 24 Premier League goals now under his belt, the forward has moved to the top of the league goalscoring charts alongside Harry Kane. The battle for the Golden Boot is certainly going to be closely-contested.

However, Salah’s instant success in England is all the more impressive given that Kane has already familiarised himself with the league after spending his entire career in this country. The Liverpool forward has used his pace and trickery to great effect as Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to be an exciting attacking proposition after the departure of Philippe Coutinho.

A huge indication of how well Salah has done this season is the fact that he has now moved ahead of Luiz Suarez’s 31 goals in all competitions from the 2013-14 season. Liverpool came agonisingly close to the league title that campaign-with Suarez being a significant contributor to that.

Therefore, to already surpass that total with nine Premier League fixtures still to play this campaign, Salah’s accumulation of goals has been nothing short of spectacular. To become the spearhead of an attacking line-up featuring Roberto Firminho and Sadio Mane has cemented Salah’s reputation as one of the best players in the league, arguably even the best.

The Egyptian has also equalled Liverpool’s club record for the highest number of Premier League games in which a player has scored in during a season. Finding the net in 19 of the 28 games he has featured in is a testament to his consistency.

BT pundit, Jermaine Jenas, is one of the many admirers of Salah’s ability: ‘‘He’s gone from wanting to be a creator to actually changing his mindset into ‘you know what, I want to have an impact on games now, I want to have that impact by scoring goals.’

‘‘It’s similar to what Gareth Bale did when he was at Spurs.’’

With Manchester United up next for Liverpool in the league, Salah will be looked to for a spark of inspiration. He is Liverpool’s prized possession right now-the man most likely to create something out of nothing. Few would bet against him being on the scoresheet once again.
