The Five England Players Who Have an Outside Shot of Euro 2020 In 2021

Euro 2020 will come around sooner than we think, and while there are already plenty of dead certs to make Gareth Southgate’s squad, others are really starting to make a claim for their selection across the Premier League.

Not everyone will make it though. No, it’ll be summer holidays for others, and that may not even mean a trip abroad. Instead, it could be bingo for Butland, Scrabble for Stones and Monopoly for Mings.

But which players are on the cusp of the squad, potentially lining up at Wembley, or potentially delving into a huge collection of online bingo games, sitting at home or taking a rather boring staycation?

Patrick Bamford

Patrick Bamford has yet to earn a cap for England, but talk is increasingly growing that he will make the squad for the next set of fixtures in March.

He’s been in good form for Leeds and has netted 11 in 20 in the Premier League. Alan Shearer has claimed he’s in with a good chance but just needs to continue his form in front of goal and be more clinical. 20 by the end of the season and it could see him called up.

Jesse Lingard

Who knows what Lingard has been up to the last few months, but his loan move to West Ham has so far proven a success, with two goals on debut.

Lingard is hoping the move will help him get some game time and be in with a chance of making the England squad. After performing so well throughout Russia 2018, he has every chance if he can kick on after a solid start with the Hammers.

John Stones

John Stones hasn’t had a look in with England for some time after starting his career as a regular. It wasn’t long ago we claimed that he’d need to move on to get his international career back on track, but he’s back in the Manchester City side and really thriving.

The centre back positions are up for grabs with England, or at least a place beside Harry Maguire is, and Stones could be the man if he continues such fine form.

Harvey Barnes

Harvey Barnes made his debut for England in October and the playmaker has gone from strength to strength for Leicester this season.

Brendan Rodgers believes the 23-year-old will offer something different to the Three Lions and he is one of a handful of Foxes who could make the cut. Barnes has netted 10 in all competitions so far this season, an impressive return, while it’s arguably his creativity in laying on Jamie Vardy and James Maddison which has most caught the eye.

Barnes will be one of a number of players given the opportunity in the upcoming friendlies, with the likes of Bamford and Stones, while names such as Luke Shaw, Emile Smith Rowe and Karl Darlow could also get the nod as we get ever closer to the summer.
